THREAD’S GUIDE TO THE OLD MONEY AESTHETIC

Fashion trends may come and go, but the classics always stay in style. The old money aesthetic has gained massive popularity on social media this summer, as celebrities like Sofia Richie trade in short skirts for tennis skorts. However, one might find this aesthetic unattainable on a non-celebrity budget.

Here is Thread’s guide to the old money aesthetic without the high prices:

Business for the Casual

Business casual wear is not just for the office. Part of the “preppy” look is always looking polished and professional. For a warmer day, pairing a blazer with a t-shirt and jeans can elevate any look for running errands. When the weather turns cooler, swap out the t-shirt for a nice turtleneck and trousers.

For a more relaxed look, pair this look with a pair of white platform sneakers. You can also add a pair of tall boots to achieve an equestrian-meets-chic look. No matter what the location, business casual is always an appropriate choice.

Off to the Courts

Nothing screams “old money” like a tennis outfit, and you do not have to be the most athletic person to try it out. Whether you are sitting in class or out to lunch with friends, a tennis skort can be paired with almost anything. Cheaper options for these can be found at Old Navy and Aerie.

Pair any skort with a workout tank, t-shirt, or a plaid polo top to achieve an “off to the Hamptons look.” Any colors will do, but white will always look clean and chic.

It Takes Two

From Jackie Kennedy to Cher Horowitz, women know a two-piece tweed set will always remain a classic. The rough texture of a tweed top and skirt is guaranteed to show off your style well.

During the winter months, a well-fitted blazer and matching skirt will keep you warm and stylish for any occasion. During the warmer months, opt for a cropped short sleeve sweater or tank to match with the skirt. While this look can be pulled off in any color, black, white and pink are the cutest options.

Good As Gold

The last stop to achieving the old money look (and maybe the old money lover) is to pair your look with gold jewelry. Gold jewelry can pull together an outfit and easily be paired with almost any look.

My go-to are gold hoop earrings and a simple looped gold ring. For your up-do hair days, opt for a pair of dangle earrings or a longer necklace. To add something simple, gold studs are a nice touch. Whatever you do, never leave the house without an accessory by your side.
