The musical sensation stealing America’s hearts is not only finding success on the pop charts but in the fashion world as well.
Otherwise known for her role in the TV series “Girl Meets World,” Sabrina Carpenter transformed herself from the young girl making her big break on Disney Channel to the mega popstar strutting down the runway for one of the most prestigious and respected designers in the world.
The “Espresso” singer made her runway debut in Paris last Sunday at the Vogue World 2024, popping out as a beach bombshell covered head to toe in red and white stripes.
The star seamlessly walked in a custom Jacquemus look, tributing to 1940s French swimwear by wearing a nautical-style striped swimsuit dress topped off with a matching headscarf and red kitten heels.
Known for her “coquette core” style often including a feminine frill and embracing girly elements in her wardrobe, this look was right up her alley.
From her album covers to her advertisements, Carpenter maintains the retro theme she tends to campaign in, while also staying in style for the upcoming summer season.
Now that she has announced the upcoming “Short n’ Sweet” tour, her flirtatious fashion influence on the world does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. So let’s break down some of her signature looks we expect to see as she takes over the world:
It is no secret Carpenter’s signature look makes people’s heads turn with her gleaming doll-like makeup which accentuates her already striking facial features.
To achieve this stunning look, Carpenter’s makeup is an effortless cross between early 2000s makeup, with hard cut-creases and heavy eye makeup, and a more naturally effortless look that’s been the recent go-to.
While Carpenter switches between a few eye looks, they all have one thing in common: emphasizing a round eye shape, similar to a doll. Usually, Carpenter does a softly-lined smudged wing or a subtle shimmery eye shadow topped off with fluffy eyebrows.
Associated with her feminine essence is anything and everything pink. Carpenter does not hold back when applying blush and is usually seen with highly pigmented cheekbones that can be seen from the last row at a concert. Her blush extends from her cheek all the way into her temple, creating a continuous illusion.
Carpenter’s lips are the cherry on top of her flushed and dewy glow. Slightly overlining her lips and shading them in with a two-toned pink lipstick color makes the illusion of plumped lips.
Now, influencers and people all over social media are attempting to recreate her iconic look. It has been a big hit, as the timeless look complements almost anyone who tries it, while not overdoing it. This look brings out the best features in everyone.
From her recent performance at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City to opening Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” in Mexico City last year, a heart cutout midi dress has been consistently featured in her wardrobe- essential with her rising fame.
While all of her outfits don’t feature a heart-shaped outline, the kitschy symbol is usually incorporated in some form in her outfits or on her set design.
Many of us think that hearts may be cliché or cheesy due to their overuse in the early 2000s but, once Carpenter started wearing them, they have made a huge comeback in the retail world. Carpenter has inspired many to perceive hearts as a symbol of women’s empowerment and having a goddess essence rather than a childish look.
Heart-shaped outfits took over the Spring/Summer 2023 runway in many shapes such as patches, cut-outs, stoning, or sculptural detailing. In 2024, heart-shaped jewelry has been a major hit and is expected to be a popular trend throughout the year. Plus, keeping up with the heart trend is more affordable when purchasing accessories rather than clothing items.
Along with her heart-themed outfits, platform boots have been a staple of Carpenter’s wardrobe. Also known as go-go boots, the retro shoes also help make her look like a real-life doll.
Though the platform boots trend has stuck around for quite a few years, Carpenter is one of the first celebrities in the modern era to incorporate these boots into more feminine outfits.
Boots are typically associated with fashion looks during the fall and winter, but the shoe style has become acceptable to pair with an outfit year-round. Whether that means pairing with jeans and a jacket in October, or a summer dress in July, platform boots are a great investment to add to your closet.
Ranging from one to five inch platforms, the boots give a major height boost by creating the illusion of long legs. Trying on these shoes can make you feel almost 10 inches taller, reiterating the feelings of unfettered female empowerment portrayed through Carpenter’s style.
As fans around the world are begging “Please, Please, Please!” for more Sabrina Carpenter content, the megastar’s big break seems to be the beginning of a successful career. Recently releasing her “Short n’ Sweet” tour stops beginning in the fall, the newspaper-esque advertisement with heart embroidery seems to recapitulate all the major points we’ve seen in former looks.
With a bright future ahead of Carpenter, it is no surprise she’s “working late” as she is a fashion icon.
